Alan Hoffman, age 84, of Preston, Iowa, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston, with Reverend Greg Geier officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Burial with Military Rites will be in Union Cemetery, rural Preston.
Alan was born June 5, 1928, the son of George and Edna (Straub) Hoffman in Jackson County. He attended Preston High School, graduating with the Class of 1946. Alan proudly served his country in the United States army during the Korean Conflict. Alan married Charleen May Moore on August 23, 1953 in Lost Nation, Iowa. She passed away December 24, 1993.
Alan was a lifelong farmer in the Preston area. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Preston American Legion Post # 602. Alan enjoyed woodworking, auctions, reading, and the design and construction of farm buildings.
Alan will be dearly missed by two daughters, Miriam Sue Hoffman of Chicago, Illinois and Patricia Ann Hoffman, Preston, Iowa; three granddaughters, Amanda (Dan) Schwertfeger of Pella, Iowa, Abby (Joe) Daelen of Park View, Iowa, and Amelia Roling of Waterloo, Iowa; one great-granddaughter, Molly; and one sister Marjorie Cornelius, of Maquoketa, Iowa.
Alan is preceded in death by his wife, Charleen.
