Allen Arthur Haas, age 83, of rural Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012, suddenly at home.  Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Savanna.  Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Savanna.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Savanna.  A memorial fund has been established for Savanna Ambulance and Fire Departments in Allen’s memory.  Online condolences and tributes may be left for the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com

Allen was born March 25, 1929, at the Savanna City Hospital, the son of Arthur and Emma (Rath) Haas.  He grew up on the family farm, attended the Gillespie Country School and graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1947.  Allen served in the US Army.  On August 28, 1955, Allen married Jeanette Kleckner.

Allen was a life-long farmer and enjoyed raising Black Angus pure-bred cattle.  Even after handing the reigns over to his sons, Allen’s passion for farming kept him interested in the daily operations.  He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Savanna; a past member of the Church Cemetery Board; and a past member of the Savanna School Board.

The light of his life were his granddaughters, and he loved to watch them grow into the people they are today.  He treasured the time they spent together.  Allen also enjoyed fishing, hunting deer and turkey, Oliver tractors, Buick cars and red Ford trucks.

Allen is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Jeanette Haas of rural Savanna;  two sons, Dan Haas of Savanna, and Steven (Mary) Haas of Savanna; two granddaughters, Margaret (Silas) Pepple of Chicago, and Anna Haas of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one sister, Lois (Lyle) Law of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; and one brother, Wayne (Dorothy) Haas of Savanna.

Allen was preceded in death by both parents.
