Ike Morris, Jr., age 86, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Ike’s memory.
Ike was born on January 12, 1926 the son of Ike and Izziner (Hollands) Morris, Sr. in Holly Grove, Arkansas. He was raised in Arkansas until he turned 18 and joined the United States Navy. Ike served his country for two years during World War II. Ike met his future wife, Margaret Lantern in 1964 and they were later married in 1973. After he was discharged, Ike drove truck for Auburn Disposal in Chicago, Illinois until retiring in 1986. Ike and his family loved western Illinois and enjoyed coming to Savanna and Thomson fishing. Ike and his wife, Margaret bought a home in Savanna in 1991 and traveled between Chicago and Savanna until moving to Savanna permanently in 2006. Ike loved fishing, hunting, listening to the Blues and spending time with his family.
Ike will be dearly missed by his wife, Margaret of Savanna; three children, Charlotte (James Rice) Morris of Savanna, Izziner (Lee Washington) Morris of Savanna and Ike (Michelle) Morris III of Chicago; four grandchildren, Christian Morris, Ike Morris IV, Izaiah Morris and Justin Rice; one great granddaughter, Kamyah; one sister, Yvonne (Frank) McGraw of Chicago and several nieces and nephews.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leroy Morris, Jordan “Gene” Morris and Theothoris “Gunner” Morris.
