Visitation & Service Times
Thomas L. Embry, age 62 of Hanover, Illinois, died on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at his home in rural Hanover.  A visitation will be held from 3:30-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover.   A funeral service will be held at 6:30 pm; family and friends are invited to the VFW at 7:00 pm for a meal.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for his grandchildren’s education.  Contributions can be sent to Apple River State Bank.

Tom was born on September 6, 1949, the son of Robert and Phyllis (Flack) Embry in Wichita, Kansas.  He attended school in Stockton, Illinois.  Tom married Verda E. Edgerton on November 2, 1968 in Freeport.

Tom was a hard worker and began working for Kelly Springfield in Freeport while attending high school.  He was a dairy farmer most of his life along with raising hogs and beef cattle.  He moved back to the Hanover area in 1993 and continued to farm.  Tom enjoyed collecting toy tractors, attending tractor pulls, and shared his hobbies with his son, Kyle.  Tom was a selfless man, who always put others before himself.  Most of all, Tom cherished the time he spent with family and friends.

Tom is survived by two children, Chris Embry (Greg) Mohr of Carlock, Illinois and Kyle (Nettie) Embry of Hanover; five grandchildren, Caleb, Joseph and Micah Mohr and Tristan and Keara Embry; his mother, Phyllis McCall of Hillsboro, Oregon, formerly of Freeport, Illinois; two brothers, Mike (Diane) Embry of Warren, Illinois and Mark Embry of Choctaw, Arkansas; three sisters, Karen (Jerry) Reinbold of Hillsboro, OR, Dianne (Denny) Owens of Phoenix, Arizona and Janet (Dan) DiMarco of Davis, Illinois; several stepsiblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Tom was preceded in death by his father, Robert; stepfather, Delmar McCall; and one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Bob Fransen.

Kyle and family....We were very saddened to hear of the loss of Tom.  He was a good man with a wicked sense of humor.  I very much enjoyed our little chats when I worked at the Bootlegger and the gas station. He will be dearly missed.

With sympathy,

Lindsay Dunham and Jim Martin

I'm very sorry to hear about Toms passing and he was always a nice guy and my God-Parent. I even have a nice scar on my left arm from a visit to the farm back in the day to rember him with.
